INTERNEL COMBUSTION ENGINES



Internal combustion gasoline engines run on a mixture of gasoline and air. The ideal mixture is 14.7 parts of air to one part of gasoline (by weight.) Since gas weighs much more than air, we are talking about a whole lot of air and a tiny bit of gas. One part of gas that is completely vaporized into 14.7 parts of air can produce tremendous power when ignited inside an engine.

Let's see how the modern engine uses that energy to make the wheels turn.

Air enters the engine through the air cleaner and proceeds to the throttle plate. You control the amount of air that passes through the throttle plate and into the engine with the gas pedal. It is then distributed through a series of passages called the intake manifold, to each cylinder. At some point after the air cleaner, depending on the engine, fuel is added to the air-stream by either a fuel injection system or, in older vehicles, by the carburetor.

Once the fuel is vaporized into the air stream, the mixture is drawn into each cylinder as that cylinder begins its intake stroke. When the piston reaches the bottom of the cylinder,intake valve closes and the piston begins moving up in the cylinder compressing the charge. When the piston reaches the top, the spark plug ignites the fuel-air mixture causing a powerful expansion of the gas, which pushes the piston back down with great force against the crankshaft just like a bicycle rider pushing against the pedals to make the bike go.

GPS


Global Positioning System(GPS) is Global navigation satellite system(GNSS) developed by United States Department of Defence and managed by United States Air Force 50th Space wing.
GPS is used in navigation world wide.
It is used for map making ,land surveying,commerce,scientific uses.
For hobbies such as Geocaching GPS is used.
WORKING:

In order for GPS to work, a network of satellites was placed into orbit around planet Earth, each broadcasting a specific signal, much like a normal radio signal. This signal can be received by a low cost, low technology aerial, even though the signal is very weak.
Rather than carrying an actual radio or television program, the signals that are broadcast by the satellites carry data that is passed from the aerial, decoded and used by to the GPS software.
The information is specific enough that the GPS software can identify the satellite, it’s location in space, and calculate the time that the signal took to travel from the satellite to the GPS receiver.
Using different signals from different satellites, the GPS software is able to calculate the position of the receiver. The principle is very similar to that which is used in orienteering

BLUE TOOTH



Blue tooth is open wireless protocol for exchanging data over short distances from fixed and mobile devices creating personal area networks(PANs)..some intresting information about this technology is given below
  • Blue tooth uses a radio technology called FREQUENCY-HOPPING SPREAD SPECTRUM which chops up the data being sent and transmit the chunks of it on up to 79 frequency
  • The name blue tooth arises due to an intresting fact..blue tooth is a name of the tenth century king Harald 1 of Denmark and Norway who united dissonant Scandinavian tribes into a single kingdom.The implication is that Bluetooth does the same with communications protocols, uniting them into one universal standard.
  • It has many applications ...it is used in mobiles,hands-free head set,GPS receivers,medical equipments,bar code scanners,traffic control devices and more...
